Product Description

Formerly known as the Texas concealed handgun license (CHL), the Texas license to carry (LTC) class provides the mandated Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) required classroom training and firearm qualification students need in order to obtain a Texas License to Carry a Handgun.

There is no set date for this class unless you are signing up for a public group class with a specified date. When purchasing a private class, LTC Austin will contact you to setup a date and time. Classes can be taken during the week or on weekends. We will try our best to work around your schedule.

License to Carry classes are split into two portions, the classroom portion and range qualification. With LTC Austin, the classroom portion can be completed at a location of your choice*. This could be your home, business, church, or other location. A classroom in the Leander/Cedar Park area can also be rented for a minimal fee as well.

LTC Austin utilizes multiple shooting ranges for the qualification. Generally, the qualifications will be conducted on private property in Leander unless stated otherwise.  All range fees are covered in the class cost.

4 to 6 hours of combined classroom instruction is required by DPS. Then there is the shooting qualification at the shooting range. A total time for the LTC class can be anywhere from 5-7 hours.

Upon successful completion of this class and qualification, a LTC-100 certificate will be provided in order to submit the LTC application through DPS.

*Additional fee of $15 will apply for class locations requested outside of 15 miles of Leander, but no farther than 25 miles. If you wish to have your class farther away, please contact us first.

– Basic proficiency with a handgun

LTC classes are not intended to train students how to shoot a handgun. The handgun proficiency portion of the course is required by the State of Texas in order to demonstrate your ability to safely and properly handle and shoot a handgun.

LTC Austin does offer a course to learn how to shoot. This is the perfect course to prepare yourself for getting the LTC. Contact us for special rates if taking both classes.
